AFRIMETS
The workshop resolved to cre- ate AFRIMETS as the umbrella body for metrology cooperation in Africa, encompassing legal, scientific and industrial metrology, open to non- exclusive partnerships, to stimulate collaboration in the area of measure- ment and measurement standards. It empowers the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), in cooperation with SADCMET, to establish a task force to take all the necessary actions to achieve its stat- ed objectives.

SADC
The origins of SADC lie in the 1960s and 1970s, when the leaders of majority-ruled countries and national liberation movements coordinated their political, diplomatic and military struggles to bring an end to colonial and white-minority rule in southern Africa. The immediate forerunner of the political and security cooperation leg of today's SADC was the informal Front Line States (FLS) grouping. It was formed in the mid-1970s.
SADCSTAN
means SADC Co-operation in Standardisation. The SADC Co-operation in Standardisation shall promote the co-ordination of standardisation activities and services in the Region, with the purpose of achieving harmonisation of standards and technical regulations, with the exception of Legal Metrology regulations, in support of the objectives of the SADC Protocol on Trade
SADCSQAM
The SADC SQAM structures (SQAMEG, SADCSTAN, SADCMEL, SADCMET, and SADCA) annual meetings were successfully held in Antananarivo, Madagascar from 22 – 28 April 2007.
SADCMEL
Means SADC Co-operation in Legal Metrology.The SADC Co-operation in Legal Metrology shall facilitate the harmonisation of the national Legal Metrology regulations of the Member States and between SADC and other regional and international trading blocks. meetings formed part of the annual series of meetings of SADC organizations dealing with Standardisation, Quality Assurance, Accreditation and Metrology (SQAM).
SADCA
The SADC Co-operation in Accreditation shall facilitate the creation of a pool of internationally acceptable accredited laboratories and certification bodies (for personnel, products and systems, including quality and environmental management systems) in the Region, and provide Member States with accreditation as a tool for the removal of TBTs in both the voluntary and regulatory areas.
