SADCMET

AFRIMETS

AFRIMETS was created by African National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) as an umbrella body for metrology cooperation on the continent. It encompasses legal, scientific and industrial metrology, is open to non-exclusive partnerships and is meant to stimulate collaboration in the area of measurement and measurement standards. SADCMET is a member of AFRIMETS, representing the interests of the states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). AFRIMETS is one of the recognized Regional Metrology Organizations (RMOs) under the worldwide Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) between National Metrology Institutes (NMIs).

SADC SQAM

The acronym SQAM stands for "Standardization, Quality Assurance, Accreditation and Metrology". It was first used in SADC to refer to these activities and formal SADC structures dealing with them (SQAMEG, SADCA, SADCMEL, SADCMET, and SADCSTAN)exist under the SADC Protocol on Trade (Annex on Technical Barriers to Trade). The last annual meetings of the SADC SQAM structures took place in Gaborone, Botswana during April 2009. The 2010 meetings will take place from 22 to 27 March in Mbabane, Swaziland.

SQAMEG

The acronym SQAMEG refers to the SADC "SQAM Expert Group". It is a joint structure between the other SQAM structures and meets annually to offer a forum for the coordination of the individual SQAM activities

SADCA

The SADC Cooperation in Accreditation facilitates the creation of a pool of internationally acceptable accredited laboratories and certification bodies (for personnel, products and systems, including quality and environmental management systems) in the Region, and provide Member States with accreditation as a tool for the removal of TBTs in both the voluntary and regulatory areas.

SADCMEL

SADCMEL stands for SADC Cooperation in Legal Metrology.The SADC Cooperation in Legal Metrology facilitates the harmonisation of the national Legal Metrology regulations of the Member States and between SADC and other regional and international trading blocks.

SADCSTAN

SADCSTAN means SADC Cooperation in Standardisation. The SADC Cooperation in Standardisation promotes the coordination of standardisation activities and services in the Region, with the purpose of achieving harmonisation of standards and technical regulations, with the exception of Legal Metrology regulations, in support of the objectives of the SADC Protocol on Trade.
